Fulham v Burnley
Brian Laws reckons Burnley can kick on now the monkey is off his back, but Fulham away is a really tough assignment for a team with a road record like they have. The Clarets have drawn one and lost 11 in 12 Premier League away games this term while Fulham have lost just three in the same period at Craven Cottage. Burnley will be encouraged by their win over West Ham, but in all honesty they were lucky to hang on to the three points and they won't get away with it if they allow Fulham to create as many chances. The problem for Fulham is their lack of firepower with Andy Johnson injured, and backers of the home side will be hoping Bobby Zamora recovers from the illness that kept him out of the 0-0 draw at Bolton on Saturday. However, Zamora or no Zamora, Fulham should simply have too much possession and create too much pressure in the final third for Burnley to handle. Unsurprisingly, the home win is a best-price 8/11 and it's just short enough to put us off. A better bet could be Fulham to win to nil, as Roy Hodgson's team have looked solid at the back recently, while Burnley haven't scored away from home in their last five. At 7/4 we'll have a dabble.
Verdict: Fulham 2 Burnley 0 (BL)
Manchester City v Bolton
After a flying start to his reign at Manchester City, Roberto Mancini is experiencing a mini-rut following defeats at Manchester United and Hull City. However, the bright lights of the City of Manchester Stadium can help his side get back on track as they have won their last seven home games. Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea were three of the sides who met defeat at Eastlands in that run. There has been no honeymoon period for Owen Coyle as Bolton lost to Arsenal twice and at Liverpool in his first few weeks in the job, and City away is just as tough as those matches. The Trotters failed to find a way through Fulham's rearguard on Saturday, but they will be confident of finding the net on Tuesday night given they knocked three past Shay Given in a 3-3 draw at the Reebok in December. Given City's run at home we fancy them for all three points but odds of 4/9 are prohibitive. Over 2.5 goals seems likely too, but 8/11 also fails to excite. All in all, a watching brief is advised.
Manchester City 3 Bolton 1 (BL)
Portsmouth v Sunderland
It's only just over two weeks since Portsmouth beat Sunderland at Fratton Park in the FA Cup and we reckon they can do so again on Tuesday night. Pompey have drawn with West Ham and lost three in a row without scoring since then, but Sunderland have been really poor in recent weeks and have to be avoided. The Black Cats haven't won in the league since November and there were few signs they were about to put that record right against Wigan at the weekend. Portsmouth were hammered 5-0 at Manchester United, but their heads went down pretty early on there and you have to wonder if they lost the game before it kicked off. This, obviously, is a much more winnable game for them and I reckon they will be up for this in front of their fans, buoyed by their recent win over the visitors. It will probably be tight, messy affair, but Pompey look worth siding with at 6/4.
Verdict: Portsmouth 2 Sunderland 1 (BL)
Wigan v Stoke
Wigan face the prospect of a long fight for survival if they fail to take the three points on offer in this one. It's just a week since a dreadful performance saw them suffer a 2-0 defeat to Notts County in the FA Cup and in between times they threw away the lead to draw 1-1 at Sunderland. In contrast, Stoke have had a better time of late after a great second-half performance saw them beat Arsenal 3-1 in the cup. Their winning streak continued as they hammered Blackburn 3-0 at the weekend. Stoke fought back twice for a 2-2 draw when the teams met in December - and a low-scoring draw looks the likeliest outcome here. Roberto Martinez's men have failed to score in their last two home games and have only 10 at the DW all season in the league while Stoke's away tally of four is the top-flight's lowest - and they have failed to score in their last five away games. With 16/1 quoted, we'll have a small-stakes speculative play on Wigan's weekend HT/FT outcome of the Latics leading at half-time and the game finishing level coming in again.
Verdict: Wigan 1 Stoke 1 (DA)
