Desert Myth gained an unwanted piece of history on Saturday as the horse lost for the second time having been backed at 1.01 in-running on Betfair.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained colt was backed at the exchange's minimum odds when beaten at Leicester earlier in July and repeated the feat when losing out by a head in photo at Goodwood on Saturday.
He looked to be coming to claim Critical Moment, who drifted to 100 in the run, in the final furlong. But the runner-up once again was unable to assert close home.
Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "A second consecutive 1.01 defeat means he now joins one of the most exclusive clubs in horseracing. In fact, he could well be the founder.
"But the layers who opposed him at 1.01 have effectively backed a 100/1 winner, so every cloud has a silver lining."
Meanwhile, there was more in-running drama at Goodwood as Midday won the Nassau Stakes.
Last year's winner traded at 65 on Betfair after being caught on the run-in before finding a second wind to claim another victory in the Group 1.
The exchange's customers got £39 on the filly at that price.
Runner-up Stacelita traded at a low of 1.5 in running.
