RACING PLACEPOT PAGE

  • Each day Malcolm Boyle, the author of 'How To Win at the Tote Placepot' and a former odds compiler, will give his unique analysis of the feature meeting from a Placepot perspective.

His general preview for the following day's racing will appear at around 5pm the day before with the actual selections available around two hours before the first race on the day of racing so factors such as non-runners and going conditions can properly be taken into account.

    LINGFIELD - FEBRUARY 10TH

Recent toteplacepot dividends pertaining to this meeting:

    2009: £215.70
    2008: £22.30
    2007: £70.30
    2006: £271.40
    2005: £166.10
    2004: £478.80
    2003: £639.10
    2002: £15.00
Average toteplacepot dividend at this meeting (8 years) £234.83
    Average toteplacepot dividend at Lingfield (flat) in 2006: £296.53 (91 meetings)—in 2007 (flat): £1,116.95 (98 meetings)--in 2008: £153.68 (90 meetings in total NH & flat)--in 2009: £224.87 (69 A/W meetings)

1.25 Mark Johnston leads the way here at Lingfield with eight winners since the turn of the year. His Tiger Hill debutant ATLANTIC TIGER has been declared to represent the stable and although the February foal meets some interesting rivals, Joe Fanning’s mount will be kept on the right side. Mark will be hoping for better luck with this raider than his winner in this contest (Soho Square) four years ago. Unusually for a Mark Johnston inmate, the victory in this contest was his only success via twenty six outings. Mark saddled the runner up the following year and has subsequently saddled just one (fourth placed) raider. BEBOPALULA was beaten less than seven lengths when totally unfancied at Doncaster, whilst the Dubawi newcomer VULCANITE completes my trio against the field.

'Favourite factor': Just three clear market leaders and one joint favourite have obliged during the last twelve years. Nine of the fourteen jollies have reached the frame, whilst six winners of the last seven winners have been returned at 7/2 or less.

1.55 Is David Evans the most underrated trainer in the land? David has sent out five winners at Lingfield already this year (as well as numerous others up and down the land others under both codes of our favourite sport) and course and distance winner RAPID CITY could post another score on the board on behalf of the yard. LAURELDEANS BEST ran well as anticipated by yours truly last time out at rewarding odds whilst BLACK N BREW is another C/D type to consider in this ‘dead eight’ event.

'Favourite factor': One of the two joint favourites secured a toteplacepot position in last year’s inaugural contest by winning at odds of 4/1.

2.25 The last five winners have carried weights of 9-0 or less and though we have eight of the fourteen runners still to consider, trends still make life that much easier. STANLEY GODSPEED attempts to land a hat trick in the space of a week and there is every chance that the John Hills raider will go close to achieving the goal. Potential party poopers in the line up include COPPERWOOD and course and distance scorer BOLLYWOOD STYLE. WATERLOO DOCK receives the overnight reserve nomination.

'Favourite factor': Five of the six market leaders have claimed toteplacepot positions (one winner).

2.55 Henry Cecil has saddled just one horse this year and ZERZURA is given the chance to double his tally having scored at Wolverhampton towards the back end of last month. Henry has not saddled a runner in this contest to date and the tip looks worth taking, especially as the maestro has hired the services of a decent seven pound claimer. ERINJAY and TRAFALGAR SQUARE might offer most resistance close home, though I’m quite keen on the late May foal who has been given plenty of time to grow into his frame. The Oasis Dream gelding was made favourite here at Lingfield at the first time of asking before going on to score at Dunstall Park and plenty of improvement is anticipated.

'Favourite factor': Three of the seven favourites have finished ion the frame (one winner) to date.

3.25 Gary Moore has snared three of the last nine renewals of this contest and PRINCE CHARLMAGNE looks sure to trouble the judge this time around. Bookmakers and punters have shared the spoils in recent times because although favourites of one sort or another have won six of the last nine contests, the other races were won by horses starting at 25/1-20/1-14/1. The layers have their work cut out to get a result this time around with just three runners likely to face the starter. DOUBNOV from the in form Ian Williams yard should offer the sternest challenge to the selection, though whether that will be in the shadow of the jamstick is open to debate.

'Favourite factor': Four clear market leaders and two joint favourites have won via ten renewals to date. Eight of the twelve market leaders have secured toteplacepot positions.

3.55 Nine of the eleven available toteplacepot positions have been claimed by horses carrying weights of 8-8 or more, which includes four of the five winners. Although the stats only eliminate one horse, the beast in question (Torres Del Paine) will be well supported which could offer us a chance to make some money out of BOWMAKER who would be Mark Johnston’s twelfth three-year-old handicap winner of the season, should the Dubawi gelding oblige. The stats were accurate before Tuesday’s sport took place. Sincere thanks for remaining loyal to the column if you were one of our readers on my last birthday, the date having come around again all too quickly!

'Favourite factor': Four of the six favourites have claimed toteplacepot positions (three winners).
