Alonso - strike helped land a dream bet!

Xabi Alonso's FA Cup wonder goal from inside his own half against Luton on Saturday was literally a dream come true for Paddy Power punter Adrian Hayward from Newbury.

Adrian made the inspired decision back in August to have a bet on Alonso to score a goal from inside his own half, he asked Paddy Power for odds and was quoted 125/1, and put his money where his mouth was by having £200 on it.

Nobody was cheering louder than Adrian when Alonso's shot hit the back of the net to seal a 5-3 win for the Reds as he landed a whopping £25,000.

Adrian said: "I watch Liverpool a lot and have seen Alonso try it before. I had a dream about it one night and just couldn't get it out of my head so decided to take up Paddy Power's odds of 125/1.

"I couldn't believe it when the goal went in, and I had a sore head the next morning!"

Paddy Power said, "What an inspired bet! I'm just wondering does Adrian have a time machine or something, how on earth could have dreamt that would happen? But it's a lovely touch, and we're delighted to cough up the cash - the Luton keeper is off the Christmas card list though!"
