1pt Juan Pablo Angel to score anytime v Chelsea at 11/5 (Chandler) |
Double v Wolves last time and keen to make up for Stamford Bridge misses earlier this season. |

1pt under two goals in Spurs v Boro clash at 9/4 (Stan James) |
Drew 0-0 in Premiership at end of October and Boro's defensive record is magnificent. |
If one tournament shows up the strength of Chelsea's squad, it's the Carling Cup.
While fielding a reserve team usually means throwing in a host of unknowns, a Chelsea second string is packed full of top-class internationals.
It's why Claudio Ranieri's men are favourites for this trophy and also big odds-on shots to beat Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The worry for Villa is that Chelsea come into the match on the back of a shock home defeat by Bolton.
The Blues have responded with 2-1 victories on the only other two occasions they've suffered defeat this season so clearly the wounded animal theory applies.
Villa will field their strongest available squad although boss David O'Leary appears to be getting in his excuses early by pointing out the crammed fixture list Villa would face if they go through.
However, there are some grounds for optimism.
Although Villa lost 1-0 in the Premiership game between the two back in September, they were unlucky to do so, missing a string of good chances.
The most guilty culprit was Juan Pablo Angel who missed a one on one and another golden chance late on.
But the Colombian has been in good goalscoring form this season and could hold the key to profits on Wednesday.
Including his two goals in World Cup qualifiers, Angel has netted 12 times this season - an impressive haul.
Four of those have come in this competition so he clearly doesn't switch off in the Carling Cup.
He took his Premiership tally to six with a double over Wolves at the weekend so with his confidence up he looks a decent bet at 11/5 to net at anytime in 90 minutes.
My feeling is that his goal could be a consolation in a Villa defeat but it certainly appeals more than taking Chelsea at a best 4/5 or an optimistic punt on Villa at 7/2.
Tottenham v Middlesbrough is the other quarter-final tie on Wednesday and given Boro's run of seven successive Premiership clean sheets and inability to score themselves, the first market which springs to mind is total goals.
Bet365's 3/4 on less than three seems decent enough while it's easy to argue that the 9/4 at Stan James on less than two is value for money.
Sometimes the change of environment from League to Cup can increase the goal count but it certainly hasn't in Boro's case as two of their three previous ties in this competition have finished 0-0 after 90 minutes.
Spurs were also 0-0 with West Ham at the end of normal time in the third round and, as a final clincher, Spurs and Boro played out a goalless draw at White Hart Lane only six weeks ago.
All in all the 9/4 on less than two goals makes plenty of sense in a match where home win, away win or draw are all possibilities.
